Compressor / limiter / gate
The DAVE HILL DESIGNS TITAN is an analogue compressor/limiter based on a discrete Class A circuit and driven by a digital control system. It offers immense sonic versatility that the user can easily take advantage of thanks to the reproducibility of the settings: the notched encoders increment/decrement the parameter values that are displayed on the Titan's colour LCD screen.
The Titan's fully analogue compression circuitry is digitally controlled by a DSP that also handles the sidechain, offering far greater possibilities than an analogue sidechain. The compressor/limiter parameters are classic: Threshold, Attack, Release, Shape (corresponds to "Knee"), Make up gain.
The colour LCD screen shows the values of all parameters and displays the compression curve in real time, making it easy to adjust. Two Titans can be daisy-chained to work in stereo, in which case the master unit controls all the functions of the slave.
In addition to the classic compression parameters, the Titan offers original parameters that act on the sound colour:
VCA Color
This parameter greatly enriches the Titan's sonic palette, from the clinical sound of a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) gain control circuit to the very distinctive sound of a vintage diode compressor gain control circuit. The setting has 16 positions for 16 times the sonic variation!
Parallel Mix
For parallel compression, this 16-position control mixes the source and compressed signals. The possibilities here are also immense.
Dynamic Color
This parameter adds the opposite harmonic content to that provided by the vintage gain circuit (VCA Color) to thicken the sound. The setting has 16 positions that allow for a wide range of variations, from straight and direct to wide and generous.
Fat/Air
This switch allows you to thicken the compressed sound (Fat) or air it out (Air).
